Do you know the ins and outs of software development in agile teams, has DevOps no more secrets and do you have experience on how to implement this way of working in an organization? Are you result driven, a leader and coach? Would you like to contribute to innovative research and development for radio astronomy instrumentation? Then you are our new
Manager/Leader Software Delivery Group
The importance of software is ever increasing within radio astronomy. ASTRON has interesting times ahead, with two major developments that are highly relevant for the software delivery group. We are currently working on a serious upgrade of the international LOFAR telescope, requiring new software for all the individual stations and we optimize the monitoring and control software. Next to this we start with the realization of a Science Data Center that will provide a portal to data archives and international high-performance computer systems that will result in groundbreaking science. To ensure we are up for the challenges ahead, we have recently centralized all the software expertise needed to operate a radio telescope, to perform the required data analysis and to deliver the output data to the astronomer in the Software Delivery group. This group is responsible for delivering high quality software, for selecting frameworks, tools and languages and for professionalizing the way we organize software development within ASTRON. All of course in close collaboration with the internal stakeholders.
ASTRON’s missions ‘Making discoveries in radio astronomy happen’ requires the combination of quick development of innovative features enabling new science and smooth deployment in operations via high-quality software and processes. We are currently exploring the possibilities of a broad implementation of an agile way of working in teams, the process of continuous integration and continuous delivery, and a process for transparent priority setting on a portfolio level. This brings high-level answers and comes with a lot of detailed-level questions. The Manager Software Delivery group will be in an excellent position to play a major role in this transformation from a combination of strategic vision and best practices based on your experience.

You match the strategic ambitions with the personal development of your team members and the building of a coherent team.
